The brand
Marmarabirlik is a union of olive growers' cooperatives around the Marmara region, best known for Gemlik black olives. Because it is a cooperative rather than a trading house, the brand sits close to the people who actually grow the fruit.
Why it travels
Table olives are a staple purchase in Turkish, Balkan, Greek and Middle Eastern households, and this is the label many of those customers grew up with. It also crosses into general delicatessen retail more easily than the drinks do, which widens who you can sell it to.
